§ 7. MARSHAL AND POLICEMEN GENERALLY; RESISTING ARREST, ETC.
   The marshal shall be chief of the police, chief of the fire department, conservator of the peace and health officer, and perform such duties as the council may, from time to time direct, by ordinance or otherwise, and receive such fees for his services as the council may fix. The marshal, policemen or police constables, or any or either of them, shall have authority to arrest, with or without warrant, any person committing crime or found engaged in violating any provision of this act or any ordinance of said corporation, or any person liable to escape before warrant can be procured, and for such purpose may follow any such person into any part of Cook and Lake counties, and there arrest such person and confine such person in a safe place, or hold him in custody until he may be brought to trial, and any person who shall forcibly resist the marshal or any policeman or police constable in the discharge of his duties, shall upon conviction thereof forfeit and pay a fine of not less than ten dollars and not exceeding one hundred dollars.
