1501.14 CONTROL AND REGULATION OF PROPANE TANKS.
   (a)   General Provisions.
      (1)   Cylinders in storage shall be located in such a manner as to minimize exposure to excessive temperature rises, physical damage, and tampering and as directed by the Fire Marshal from the Division of Fire.
      (2)   Cylinders shall at no time be stored within a building frequented by the public or any single residential occupancy in excess of the limits of this chapter. In occupancies of multi-family residential, each dwelling unit to limited to two cylinders or forty-two pounds of water capacity, in aggregate, per unit.
      (3)   Cylinders shall be not be stored indoors within any building regulated by the Ohio Building Code or within special buildings or rooms without permit and inspection by the Division of Fire.
      (4)   Cylinders shall not be stored on any roof structure.
   (b)   Protection of Cylinders. Cylinder valves shall be protected by suitable screw cap or collar and all outlet valves shall be plugged or otherwise capped closed regardless of whether the cylinder is full, partially full or empty.
   (c)   Storage of Cylinders Outside Buildings and Awaiting Use, Resale or Exchange.
      (1)   Storage cabinets shall remain locked and secured at all times.
      (2)   Only employees of the business providing the exchange service or the propane supplier shall access the storage area.
      (3)   All appropriate warning labels and no smoking signage shall be posted and maintained. Issued permits must be available on site upon request.
      (4)   Cylinder storage shall maintain an assured clearance of five feet from any doorway or opening in a building providing two means of egress and an assured clearance of ten feet from any doorway or opening in occupancies having only one means of egress.
      (5)   Prevention of damage to stored cylinders by motor vehicles or lift truck equipment shall be provided by:
         A.   Barrier or poles surrounding the storage cabinet or rack which are a minimum of thirty inches in height and no more than forty-two inches in height; or
         B.   A setback of a minimum of forty-two inches from road or parking surface and a curbing a minimum of six inches in height.
      (6)   Cylinder storage shall be maintained at least twenty feet from any fuel- dispensing point.
   (d)   Inspections; Permit. No activity permitted by this section shall be conducted until the owner or tenant of the premises and activity has been inspected by the Fire Marshal and a permit to conduct the activities as issued by the Chief Building Official has been obtained.
   (e)   Violation. Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor on the first offense; upon each subsequent offense shall person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. A separate offense shall be deemed committed each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
