6-1-1: UTILITY SERVICE, BUILDING PERMIT REQUIRED:
   A.   Purpose: The purpose of this section is to provide for the safety, promote the health and prosperity, and for the protection of the property of the citizens of the city by prohibiting utility companies from providing any service to any structure until a building permit has been issued.
   B.   Definitions: The following words and terms when used in this section shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this subsection:
   BUILDING PERMIT: That permit in standard form adopted and in use by the city, pursuant to existing ordinances 1 .
   SERVICE: Providing, attaching or hooking up to any building, mobile home or other structure any line or pipe, which line or pipe is intended to provide any of the following services: telephone, gas, electricity, water or sewage disposal.
   UTILITY: Any public or private corporation or company which supplies the public or a group of individuals with the following commodity, service or both: telephone, gas, electricity, water or sewage disposal.
   C.   Building Permit Required: It shall be unlawful for any utility company to provide any service to any building, mobile home or other structure situated in the confines of the city, until such utility company has been furnished with a copy of a building permit which has been issued for such building, mobile home or other structure by the city.
   D.   Copies Of Permit: The city clerk shall, from the effective date hereof, issue building permits to successful applicants in number and amount sufficient for such successful applicant to furnish all utility companies with a copy thereof. (Ord. 19, 7-9-1974, eff. 8-1-1974; amd. 1985 Code)
   E.   Violation And Penalty: A violation of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor and shall be punishable as provided in section 1-4-1 of this code. (Ord. 743, 11-17-2015)
