7-2-5: CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS:
All sidewalks shall be built by the following specifications and none other:
   A.   Width: Width in residential sections shall be five feet (5') and wider where required by the city engineer; provided, that in residential sections when an adjoining concrete walk is less than five feet (5') wide, a lesser width may be allowed by the city engineer; provided, that in exercising his discretion in such cases, he shall be governed by the population density of the immediate vicinity and the future demands to be made by the public on such walk.
   B.   Base: All bases shall be five inches (5") except where the city engineer requires additional depths for driveways.
   C.   Mixtures: All concrete mixtures shall be 1-2-4 proportion, well mixed.
   D.   Concrete: All walks shall be of concrete and nothing else; made in one course, properly troweled and tramped to bring to a smooth mortar surface.
   E.   Subgrades: Places which are low and continuously damp or soaked shall have a five inch (5") subbase of gravel or cinders with tiling added for drainage as specified by the city engineer.
   F.   Expansion Joints: Expansion joints one-half inch (1/2") wide and filled with bituminous material shall be placed in all walks, and joints not to be more than forty eight inches (48") apart. Expansion joints shall be placed on all sides of intersecting blocks, at all curb connections, on both sides of driveway crossing blocks. At all junctions of walks with the curbs, there shall be one inch (1") expansion joints filled with bituminous material.
   G.   Slopes: All walks shall slope one way toward the curb with a fall of one-fourth inch (1/4") to each foot.
   H.   Grades And Levels: The city engineer shall supply all grades and levels and none other shall be used.
   I.   Finish: Sidewalks shall have a wooden float finish, true to line and grade, and shall bear thereon the imprint of the person, firm, or corporation constructing the same. Said wooden float finish may be waived by the city engineer in the exercise of his discretion. (1980 Code § 19-21)
