(a) It shall be unlawful for the driver of a vehicle to park a vehicle or to leave a vehicle unattended in any area designated by the corporate authorities as a fire lane. Fire lanes are established for the express purpose of providing unrestricted access for emergency vehicles, and the driver of any vehicle within a fire lane shall immediately, upon becoming aware of the presence of an emergency vehicle approaching or entering said fire lane or upon the direction of a police officer, remove such vehicle from said lane. Such areas designated as fire lanes are set forth in section 22-167, exhibit G, of this chapter.
(b) In lieu of the penalty provisions prescribed in section 22-80 of this chapter, any person violating any provision of this section shall be assessed a fine in the amount of not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) for each offense. (Ord. 0-11-02, 1-18-2011)
