246.12 EMT AND PARAMEDIC REQUIREMENTS IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
   (a)   After April 1, 1987, any person receiving an initial appointment as a member of the Fire Department shall be required, during his or her probationary period, to complete a program of instruction and obtain a certificate to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, pursuant to Ohio R.C. 4765.30 and 4765.39, as amended, if such person does not already possess the certificate to practice as a Paramedic. The Clerk is authorized to pay for the initial program of instruction for the appointee. If the appointee is unable to obtain a certificate to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic after two separate tests, he or she shall be deemed to have unsatisfactorily completed his or her probationary period and he or she shall be terminated from the department pursuant to Section 246.11.
   (b)   Any member of the Fire Department who was employed prior to April 1, 1987, shall not be required, as a condition of employment, to maintain a valid certificate to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic pursuant to Ohio R.C. 4765.30 and 4765.39, as amended.
   (c)   All full-time members of the Fire Department hired after April 1, 1987, shall, as a condition of employment in the Fire Department, after successful completion of their probationary periods and through the first nine years of service with the Fire Department, be required to maintain a certificate to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, pursuant to Ohio R.C. 4765.30 and 4765.39, as amended.
