§ 34.01 DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED; COMPOSITION.
    There is hereby established an executive department of the village which shall be known as the “Department of Police”. The Department shall embrace the offices and positions hereinafter enumerated and such others as may be provided for, from time to time, in the annual appropriation ordinance.
   (A)   Police officers. There is hereby created the position of Chief of Police, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees as provided in § 34.02 and the position of up to 18 full-time police officers of the Police Department,
   (B)   Animal Care Section. There is hereby created a section of the Department to be known as the Animal Care Section which shall consist of a Poundkeeper and such other employees as the Fire and Police Commission shall assign thereto. The Poundkeeper shall be appointed by the Mayor with the concurrence of the Board of Trustees and shall operate under the provisions of the village ordinances relating to animals.
   (C)   Women employees. As deemed practicable by the Chief of Police, women employees or officers of the Department or auxiliary police women shall have charge of female prisoners confined in the village jail.
   (D)   Auxiliary Police. Auxiliary police, as authorized by the State Municipal Code, shall be appointed as provided by § 34.16.
