Air-to-air heat recovery and air energy transfer equipment and systems intended to recover either sensible heat (dry bulb temperature), latent heat (humidity ratio) or enthalpy (total heat) may be used if the equipment or system is connected to an exhaust system from which recirculated air is permitted. For systems which require all air to be exhausted directly to outside, such heat recovery may only be used if there is no more than 5% (five percent) communication between outside air and exhaust air for Class I or Class II air as defined by ASHRAE 62.1. All other applications shall be approved by the committee on standards and tests in accordance with Chapter 13-16 of this Code.
