§ 31.005  SALARIES OF OFFICIALS.
   (A)   The annual salaries of the elected and appointed officials shall be as follows for those officials taking office on 5-1-1997 and thereafter, to-wit, as set from time to time by the City Council in the annual appropriation ordinance:
      (1)   Mayor: $4,800 per year;
      (2)   City Clerk: $3,000 per year; and
      (3)   Aldermen: $900 per year.
   (B)   (1)   The salaries of elected officials who hold elective office for a definite term shall neither be increased, nor diminished, during that term and shall be fixed at least 180 days before the beginning of the terms of the officers whose compensation is to be filed.
      (2)   The ordinance fixing compensation for members of the corporate authorities shall specify whether those members are to be compensated at an annual rate or for each meeting of the corporate authorities actually attended if public notice of the meeting was given.
