137.04 DIVISION OF POLICE.
   (a)   The Division of Police shall consist of the Chief of Police and such officers and such number of patrolmen as the City Manager may deem necessary to properly police the City. The Division shall be charged with the duty of enforcing within the limits of the City all police, sanitary and other regulations which are prescribed by ordinance or the general laws of the State, and shall have the powers given by the laws of the State of police officers.
   (b)   Council hereby creates the position of Deputy Chief in the Police Department and this position shall be an exempt, classified position. The City Manager shall appoint the Deputy Chief upon the recommendation of the Police Chief. The Deputy Chief shall be chosen from the rank of Sergeant or above. The Deputy Chief may be terminated for just cause by the City Manager. The Deputy Chief may also be transferred or reduced by the City Manager with recommendation for such transfer or reduction by the Police Chief. If the Deputy Chief was appointed to the position from the classified civil service position in the Police Department, the Deputy Chief shall revert to the classified civil service status held by him or her at the time of his or her appointment if he or she is transferred or reduced. The Deputy Chief shall receive the same clothing allowance and shooting proficiency as other officers and his or her work schedule will be determined by the Police Chief. (Ord. 8929-12.
