5-1-1: THROUGH STREETS; STOP AND YIELD INTERSECTIONS:
   A.   Through Streets: The driver of a vehicle shall stop at the entrance of a through street and shall yield the right of way to other vehicles which have entered the intersection or which are approaching so close on a through street as to constitute an immediate hazard, unless directed otherwise by a traffic officer or a traffic control signal. The following are declared through streets: (Ord. 04-79, 6-5-1979)
County Highway 2, from the north city limit to the west line of Main Street.
Hargrave Street, from Illinois Route 29 to the east line of Main Street.
Jackson Street, from the east line of Lincoln Street (grade school) on the west end to Main Street on the east.
Jackson Street, from West Barn Hollow Drive, eastwardly, to the west line of Lincoln Street.
Main Street, from Little Street on the south to and including North Grand Avenue on the north.
Springfield Street, from the north city limit to the north line of Hargrave Street.

   B.   Stop Intersections: The driver of a vehicle shall stop in obedience to a stop sign at an intersection where a stop sign is erected pursuant to this chapter, at one or more entrances thereto, and shall proceed cautiously, yielding to the vehicles not so obliged to stop which are within the intersection or approaching so close as to constitute an immediate hazard, unless traffic at such intersection is controlled by a police officer on duty, in which event, there shall be compliance with the direction of the police officer. All streets intersecting with the through streets specified in subsection A of this section.
Adams Street, northbound and southbound, at its intersection with Madison Street.
Adams Street, southbound, at its intersection with Little Street.
Adams Street, westbound, at its intersection with Jackson Street.
Bitteroot Drive, southbound, at its intersection with Lynwood Drive.
Bunchberry Court, southbound, at its intersection with Lynwood Drive.
Circle Drive, at its intersection with County Highway 2.
Clover Court, southbound, at its intersection with Lynwood Drive.
Dottie Bednarko Drive at its intersection with County Highway 2.
Jackson Street, westbound, at its intersection with Lincoln Street.
Lincoln Street, northbound and southbound, at its intersection with Washington Street.
Little Street and Main Street, in all directions at the four-way intersection.
Little Street, northbound, and Oak Grove Drive, westbound, at their intersection.
Main Street and Hargrave Street, in all directions at the three-way intersection.
Mill Street, at its intersection from both directions onto Little Street.
Polk Street, at its intersection with Eureka Street.
Polk Street, northbound and southbound, at its intersection with Jefferson Street.
Polk Street, northbound and southbound, at its intersection with Madison Street.
Primm Street, northbound and southbound, at its intersection with Madison Street.
South Barn Hollow Drive, northbound, at its intersection with West Jackson Street.
Washington Street, at its intersection with Mason Street.
Washington Street, eastbound and westbound, at its intersection with West Street.
Washington Street, westbound, at its intersection with Wilson Road.
West Street, northbound, at its intersection with Washington Street.

   C.   Yield Intersections: The city may, in its discretion and when traffic conditions warrant such action, give preference to traffic upon any streets under its jurisdiction over traffic crossing or entering such streets by erecting appropriate yield signs. The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way in obedience to a sign as required herein at an intersection and shall proceed cautiously, yielding to all other vehicles which are within the intersection or approaching so close as to constitute an immediate hazard, but then may proceed. Cedar Street, northbound, at its intersection with Madison Street.
Jackson Street, eastbound, at its intersection with West Street.
Jefferson Street, at all streets intersecting Jefferson Street, except those identified as stop intersections in subsection B of this section.
Madison Street, at all streets intersecting Madison Street.
Mill Street, at its intersection with Washington Street.
Polk Street, northbound, at its intersection with Washington Street.

   D.   Enforcement:
      1.   Fine: Any person violating any provision of this section shall be fined not less than twenty five dollars ($25.00) nor more than seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) for each offense. (Ord. 07-95, 8-14-1995; amd. 2017 Code)
      2.   Traffic Violation Ticket: For offenses under this section, an appropriate law enforcement officer may issue a traffic violation ticket notifying the offender to appear in court at the time designated for hearing such cases.
      3.   Failure To Appear; Arrest Warrant: A warrant for arrest may issue if the offender does not appear at the time and place so specified. (Ord. 07-95, 8-14-1995)
