Every person, firm, or corporation engaged in the purchase, within the city, of coins, jewelry, precious and semi-precious stones, and objects made of precious metals, shall keep a register of all such purchases. The register shall show the date of all purchases and the names and addresses of all persons from whom the property was purchased. Opposite the names and dates shall be written a full description of all property purchased. The registry shall at all times be open to the inspection of any officer of the city when in the discharge of his official duties.
