(a) The personnel of the Police Department of the City of Amherst, Ohio shall consist of the following personnel: one full-time chief, two full-time lieutenants, one full-time civilian administrator, four full-time patrol sergeants, up to twenty-one full-time or part-time patrol officers, up to eleven full-time or part-time dispatchers, administrative assistants or records personnel, and other members as may be provided by Council.
(b) When a vacancy occurs in the ranks of the personnel of the Police Department, the Chief of Police shall notify the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission and the appointing authority who shall make an appointment to fill such vacancy as required by law.

The City shall provide service weapons for all officers and the Chief of Police shall maintain an inventory of such weapons and yearly reports on such weapons shall be sent to Council on or before December l of each year. Such weapon shall be as determined by the Chief of Police. No such allowance shall be granted to those officers employed before January 1, 1980. (Ord. 21-02. Passed 1-11-21.)
