§ 31.17 REMOVAL OF DEAD WIRES.
   It shall be unlawful for any electric light, telegraph, or telephone company to permit any of their disconnected, dead, or unused wires to hang or remain on any pole, tree, or house where it has been formerly connected and in use. These wires shall be taken down and removed immediately upon notice by the Building Inspector. It shall be the duty of the Chief of the Fire Department to notify the Building Inspector whenever he has knowledge of this condition existing. A violation of this section is punishable as a misdemeanor.

FIRE PREVENTION CODE
§ 31.25-1 TITLE.
   This subchapter shall be known as the Fire Prevention and Protection Code of the City of Albemarle, North Carolina, and may be cited as such and referred to herein as the code.

§ 31.25-2 INTENT OF CODE.
   (A)   It is the intent of the code to prescribe regulations consistent with nationally recognized good practice for the safe guarding of life and property within the jurisdiction of the city from hazards of fire and explosion arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, and from hazardous conditions in the use or occupancy of building or premises.
   (B)   The code shall not be construed to hold the county responsible for any damage to persons or property by reason of the inspection or reinspection authorized herein or failure to inspect or the permits issued or denied as herein provided or by reason of the approval or disapproval of any equipment authorized herein.

§ 31.25-3 FIRE CHIEF TO ENFORCE CODE.
   The Fire Prevention and Protection Code of the city shall be enforced by the City Fire Chief and his authorized representatives or as otherwise provided herein.

§ 31.25-4 ADOPTION BY REFERENCE: COPIES OF FILE.
   (A)   There is hereby adopted by reference and incorporated herein that certain code known as and entitled 2009 edition of the International Fire Code, which has been adopted by the State of North Carolina Fire Code, together with each appendices thereto adopted by the State of North Carolina Fire Code. Copies of the City of Albemarle Fire Prevention and Protection Code and all technical codes and standards adopted by references, and each appendices thereto adopted in the State of North Carolina Fire Code shall be filed with, and available for public inspection in the office of the Fire Marshal.
   (B)   Amendments to codes and standards adopted by reference herein which are adopted and published by the North Carolina State Building Code Council shall be effective in the City at the time such amendments become a part of "The Fire Code" of North Carolina.
