163.23 OVERTIME PAY FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT.
(a) Each regularly appointed, full-time member of the Police Department, whether a salaried or hourly rated employee, shall be compensated at a rate of one and one half times the normal rate of pay for any hours of work performed, or fractions thereof, in excess of the prescribed number of hours in the normal work week. Provided, such member shall have the option of earning compensatory time at the rate of one and one-half hours for every overtime hour worked.
(b) Upon the retirement or separation of a member, compensation at the rate of straight time may be made to the member of all accumulated compensatory time earned.
Any accumulated compensatory time may be taken only with the approval of the member's supervisor. Accumulated compensatory time must be taken prior to retirement if the member is so directed by the Chief of Police.
