373.12 OPERATING BICYCLE ON CONTROLLED-ACCESS HIGHWAY, EXPRESSWAY OR FREEWAY.
   (a)   No bicyclist shall operate a bicycle upon any portion of any controlled-access highway, expressway or freeway or any approaches thereto.
   (b)   The provisions of this section shall not be effective until signs giving notice of same are posted at the approaches of controlled-access highways, expressways or freeways. Appropriate signs apprising bicyclists of the prohibition contained within this section shall be posted on or as near as is practicable to the approaches to various controlled-access highways, expressways and freeways.

   (c)   Whoever violates any provision of this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor on a first offense; on a second offense within one year after the first offense, the person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the fourth degree; on each subsequent offense within one year after the first offense, the person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree.
