A. There is hereby created in and for the village of Winfield the position of corporal.
B. The position of corporal shall be appointed by the chief of police.
C. The corporal may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full time officers of the village's police department and must have at least two (2) years of full time service as a police officer in the Winfield police department.
D. Anyone assigned the rank of corporal shall serve at the discretion of the chief, and, if removed from the position, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to the appointment to the corporal position. However the corporal, having been appointed from any rank of sworn officers, shall be permitted, regardless of rank, to take promotional exams and be promoted to a higher classified rank than he currently holds, without having to resign as corporal.
