1505.05 TYPES OF DETECTORS; TESTING.
   Battery-operated smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors may be used only in existing structures. The batteries must be replaced at least once a year or as recommended by the manufacturer of the detector. All batteries must bear a tag showing the date installed. Each smoke detector shall be tested with smoke at the time the batteries are replaced. Any detector found to be inoperable shall be repaired or replaced immediately. In all new construction, detectors shall be permanently wired and powered by 115-volt electrical circuit and smoke detectors shall be tested with smoke at least once a year. The owner is responsible for maintaining a record of such tests.
