Basement and cellar walls constructed of hollow masonry units or of permeable solid masonry units shall be protected on the exterior from the finish grade to the outside edge of the footing, by the application of a one-half inch with Type M mortar plaster coat, over which shall be applied at least one heavy coat of undiluted hot tar or hot asphalt, or which shall be otherwise protected in a manner approved by the Chief Building Inspector. Basement walls of poured concrete shall be protected on the exterior by the application of at least one heavy coat of undiluted hot tar, hot asphalt or other compound approved by the Chief Building Inspector. Above grade level, the basement and cellar walls shall have four-inch brick veneer. In the case of formed, poured concrete walls, the walls shall be permitted to have a brick pattern engraved onto the walls by stamping a cast in place brick veneer onto the exterior side of the finished walls which are above grade. Backfill shall be with #57 washed gravel that must be brought up to within eighteen inches of grade.
