No person shall hold any public dance or public ball or hold classes in dancing, or give instruction in dancing for hire in any hall or academy or other room within the limits of the City until the dance hall or other room in which the same is held has first been duly licensed for such purpose by the Mayor. The license shall not be issued until the license fee hereinafter provided shall be paid. The license fee shall be granted as follows:
Floor Space in Hall (in square feet) Annual License Fee
Up to 2, 500 $15.00
Over 2,500 to 5,000 25.00
Over 5,000 to 6,500 30.00
Over 6,500 50.00
In computing floor space only that portion of the floor actually used for dancing shall be considered. Each license granted hereunder shall expire on May 15 of each year. All moneys received by way of license fees shall be paid into the General Fund and every public dance hall shall post its license in a conspicuous place within the hall where the dance is held.
