157.18 ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION.
   (a)   Educational Pay - Fire Department. The Fire Chief or the full-time Assistant Fire Chief of the Fire Department who has, after two (2) years continuous service, acquired any of the following credentials, shall receive additional compensation, payments in accordance with the following schedule:
      (1)   A training certificate attesting to the satisfactory completion of all Fire Technology courses offered towards an Associate's Degree in Fire Technology shall receive a sum of money equal to three hundred dollars ($300.00) per year.
      (2)   An Associate's Degree in Fire Science Technology, or its approved equivalent, shall receive a sum of money equal to four hundred fifty dollars ($450.00) per year.
      (3)   A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science Technology, or its approved equivalent, shall receive a sum of money equal to seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) per year.
   (b)   Payment Conditions. The above benefits provided by this section shall only be paid under the following conditions:
      (1)   All the fees for school are paid by the employee.
      (2)   The Degree or Certificate is conferred by a university, college, junior college, or community college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
   (c)   Installments. The compensation provided herein shall be payable in equal installments on February 1 and August 1 of each calendar year. Nothing provided in this section shall be considered to constitute a part of the basis for the calculation of additional compensation for longevity or overtime.
   (d)   Educational Pay - Police Department. The Police Chief or the Lieutenant, who has, after two (2) years of continuous service, acquired the following credentials, shall receive compensation in accordance with the following schedule:
      (1)   Associate degree in law enforcement or criminal justice or equivalent technical education pertaining to criminal justice, where such degree or technical education credential is conferred by any university, college, junior college or community college, which is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or its successor accrediting authority to any similar accrediting authority, a sum of money equal to three percent (3%) of the annual compensation, excluding longevity compensation of such employee otherwise provided to a maximum of four hundred fifty dollars ($450.00) per year.
      (2)   Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, police science or administration or an equivalent technical education credit in the field of criminal justice, where such degree or credential is conferred by a university or college which is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or its successor accrediting authority or any similar accrediting authority, a sum of money equal to five percent (5%) of the annual compensation, excluding longevity compensation of such employee otherwise provided to a maximum of seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) per year.
   The compensation provided herein shall be payable in equal installments in the first pay in May and the first pay in September each year. Nothing provided in this section shall be considered to constitute a part of the basis for the calculation of additional compensation for longevity.   
   (e)   The Chief of the Fire Department and the full-time Assistant Fire Chief of the Fire Department shall receive a paramedic bonus in the same amount as the unionized full-time employees of the Fire Department.
   (f)   All full-time employees of the City who are scheduled to work, and who actually do work, on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day shall be compensated at the rate of one and one-half (1 ½) times their regular rate of pay for hours worked.
