The office of Building Official is hereby created and the executive officer in charge thereof shall be known as “the Building Official”. The Building Official shall be nominated for appointment by the Mayor and his or her appointment made and confirmed by the Common Council. The Building Official shall serve at the will and pleasure of the Common Council and shall be compensated for his or her service as such in such amounts and manner as from time to time shall be determined by the Common Council. During the temporary absence or disability of the Building Official, the Mayor may, if he or she deems it necessary, designate an acting Building Official, who shall act in that capacity during the temporary absence or disability of the Building Official.
