§ 92.07 REPLACEMENT OF PAVEMENT.
   (A)   General. The materials to be used and the method of replacement of all pavement disturbed in the making of openings in streets or alleys shall be done in accordance with the general construction and material specifications for streets and sewers of the city. Special precautions shall be taken to prevent all concrete from freezing after it is placed in position until the concrete has thoroughly hardened. Any concrete showing injury by freezing shall be removed and replaced. In no case shall concrete be deposited upon frozen subgrade. Every effort shall be made to open to traffic all cuts on main thoroughfares and in intersections at the earliest possible moment. As far as it is physically possible to do so, steel plates or wood planks of sufficient size shall protect newly placed concrete. All locations shall be properly protected by barricades and red lights, flares, or bombs until such time that they are safe to open to traffic.
   (B)   Asphaltic concrete pavement on stone or gravel base.
      (1)   The asphaltic concrete wearing surface shall be cut with a concrete saw. All material shall be removed out of the trench to a depth of 6 inches below the existing surface. There shall then be placed 3 inches of Grade “B” base course as specified under Item B-32 crushed aggregate base course in the general specifications of the city. This base course shall be thoroughly tamped and compacted.
      (2)   The 1-1/2 inch binder course of asphaltic concrete (T-35) shall then be placed and the street can be opened to traffic and the asphaltic wearing surface applied at a later date.
   (C)   Gravel roadway (plain or oiled).
      (1)   All material shall be removed from the trench to a depth of 5 inches below the existing surface. There shall then be placed 3 inches of Grade “B” base course as specified under Item B-32 crushed aggregate base course in the general specifications of the city. This base course shall be thoroughly tamped and compacted.
      (2)   On this base course there shall be placed 2 inches of oil aggregate surface course, B-52 well compacted, and the street can be opened to traffic.
   (D)   Restoration of sidewalks and driveways.
      (1)   All sidewalks, curbs, and driveways that have been cut, removed, damaged, tilted, or settled shall be replaced. Cuts in driveways over 10 feet in width will be considered the same as cuts in pavement, and may be repaved as such. All replacement of sidewalks and driveways shall be done in accordance with the general construction and material specifications for streets and sewers of the city.
      (2)   With the restoration of concrete walks, in addition to the question of serviceability and durability of restoration, the matter of appearance will be considered in determining the area to be restored, regardless of the size of the opening. The restoration of complete blocks will be required in all cases and the walk shall be cut at the joints with a concrete saw and the new work shall be joined up with the old work in a neat and workmanlike manner. The finish shall be the same as the surrounding area. Expansion joints shall be restored where required, regardless of whether they existed in the original walk.
   (E)   Restoration of sodded areas. For this type of cut, every effort must be made to replace not only the actual disturbed area, but any adjacent area which may have been injured or destroyed by the permittee's work. If the existing sod can be removed and is not injured thereby, it may be replaced, but any damaged sod must be replaced by new sod. Restoration will not be considered complete until restored sod shall have knitted with the subgrade. Any maintenance necessary, such as watering, shall be considered a part of the restoration.
