At the time a public sewer becomes available to a premises served by a private sewage disposal system, as provided in Section 1040.10, direct connection shall be made to the public sewer within 180 days, in compliance with this chapter. Any septic tanks, cesspools and similar private sewage disposal facilities shall then be abandoned and filled with suitable material.
