244.04 PRIVATE POLICE AND AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.
   (a)   The Police Chief, with the approval of the Director of Public Service and Safety, when good cause exists, may appoint a special patrolman or night watchman for the protection of private residential or business properties, areas or establishments, provided that such appointees shall receive no compensation from the Municipality and shall have first given bond to the City in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000). Appointees shall have patrolman powers and, while on duty, may wear police uniforms and insignia and carry arms which the Director may prescribe. Appointment may be rescinded at any time by the Police Chief or by resolution of Council.
   (b)   The Auxiliary Police Unit shall be within the Wapakoneta City Police Department. The Director of Public Service and Safety shall be the executive head of the Auxiliary Police Unit, shall make all appointments and removals of Auxiliary Police Officers, subject to any general rules prescribed by Council, and shall prescribe rules for the organization, training, administration, control and conduct of the Auxiliary Police Unit. Members of the Unit shall have patrol powers and, while on duty, may wear police uniforms and insignia and carry approved firearms. The Chief of Police shall have exclusive control of the stationing and transfer of all members of the Auxiliary Police Unit under such general rules and regulations as the Director may prescribe. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall receive compensation in accordance with the provisions of Section 260.31 upon the approval of the Chief of Police. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall not be in the classified service of the City. The Director of Public Service and Safety shall determine the number of members of the Auxiliary Police Unit.
