§ 150.135 SPRINKLER SYSTEMS.
   (A)   If a new one-family or two-family residential dwelling is constructed with a sprinkler system, said sprinkler system shall be in compliance with this section, IRC §§ R313.2 and P2904, which are hereby incorporated by reference as if set out in full herein and made a part hereof.
   (B)   The system must be designed to comply with § P2904 of the 2009 IRC, or, in the alternative, designed to comply with National Fire Protection Association (“NFPA”) § 13D. The applicant must, however, comply with all standards and specifications of the publication selected by the applicant.
   (C)   Regardless of the publication selected, no residential sprinkler system installation may utilize any antifreeze solution or additive to water.
   (D)   If the applicant utilizes the prescriptive design requirements of § P2904 of the 2009 IRC, there is no requirement that a design professional be involved in the design of the sprinkler system. In the event that the applicant opts to utilize NFPA 13D, the sprinkler system must be designed by a fire protection design professional or a designer certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
   (E)   The design of the sprinkler system must be submitted with building plans at the time of application for a building permit.
      (1)   The components of system design which must be submitted for review include, but are not limited to:
         (a)   Design calculations;
         (b)   Water supply piping materials;
         (c)   Sizing of components;
         (d)   Appliances;
         (e)   Valves;
         (f)   Backflow prevention devices along with sprinkler heads being used with manufacturers’ cuts on coverages and flow rates; and
         (g)   Location of sprinkler heads.
      (2)   The plan shall contain all of the information and details set forth in the document titled “Residential Sprinklers,” which is attached hereto, incorporated herein, and labeled Appendix “1”.
      (3)   If an application is submitted without this information, and without other required construction documents, the application will be rejected as incomplete and will be denied and returned to the applicant.
   (F)   All residential sprinkler systems shall be connected to the public water supply system. The applicant shall comply with the relevant water connection detail drawings, which are attached hereto, incorporated herein, and labeled Appendix “2”.
