9-3-3: DEFINITIONS:
The following definitions apply within this Chapter:
   ADMINISTERING AGENCY: City building office as supervised by the Mayor.
   AQUIFER: A ground water bearing geologic formation or formations that contain enough saturated, permeable material to yield significant quantities of water.
   CONTAMINATION: The presence of any harmful or deleterious substances in the drinking supply.
   DRINKING WATER: Water that is satisfactory for drinking, for culinary and domestic purposes, and that meets current State and Federal drinking water standards.
   GROUND WATER: Water that fills all the unblocked pores of underlying material below the water table which is the upper limit of saturation, or water which is held in the unsaturated zone by capillarity.
   HANDLE: To use, generate, process, produce, package, treat, store, emit, discharge, or dispose of a regulated substance.
   REGULATED SUBSTANCE: A hazardous or toxic substance regulated under Section 9-3-4 of this Chapter.
   THREE FORKS AQUIFER: The aquifer underlying the City of Three Forks which supplies the area with water.
   WELLHEAD: The physical structure, facility, or device at the land surface from or through which ground water flows or is pumped from subsurface, water-bearing formations.
   WELLHEAD PROTECTION AREA: The surface and subsurface area surrounding a water well or well field supplying a public water system, through which contaminants are reasonably likely to move toward and reach such water well or well field which is determined to have a one hundred foot (100') radius from the well.
   ZONE OF CONTRIBUTION: The area surrounding a pumping well that encompasses all areas or features that supply ground water recharge to the well. (Ord. 225, 1993) !DEFEND!
