All words and phrases used in this chapter, the definitions of which are not herein given, shall be given the ordinary meanings. Whenever in this chapter the following terms are used, they shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section:
ARTERIAL HIGHWAYS: That portion of Montana State Highway 10 within the limits of the City of Three Forks, Montana; all of Main Street in the City of Three Forks, Montana; and all those streets and avenues which may be hereafter designated by the Council as arterial highways.
AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE: Vehicles of the Fire Department, police vehicles and such ambulances and emergency vehicles of City departments as are designated or authorized by the Mayor.
BUSINESS DISTRICT: All that part or those parts of Three Forks on Main Street and that portion or those portions of Montana State Highway 10 within the limits of the City of Three Forks, Montana.
CAMPING, PRIVATE NON-COMMERCIAL: The use of temporary living accommodations such as tents, tepees, yurts, and recreation vehicles such as motor homes, campers, or trailers or any other vehicle or structure not permitted.
COUNCIL: The City Council.
CROSSWALK: That portion of a street or roadway ordinarily included within the prolongation of curb and property lines at intersections, or any other portion of a street or roadway clearly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface.
INTERSECTION: The area embraced within the prolongation of the lateral curb lines, or, if none, then, the lateral boundary lines of two (2) or more streets or highways which join one another at an angle, whether or not one such street or highway crosses the other.
MAYOR: The Mayor of the City.
MOTOR VEHICLE: Every vehicle as herein defined, which is self- propelled.
OFFICIAL TRAFFIC SIGNS: All signs, markings and devices, other than signals, not inconsistent with this chapter, placed or erected by authority of the Mayor or other official having jurisdiction, for the purpose of guiding, directing, warning or regulating traffic.
OPERATOR: Any person who is in actual physical control of a vehicle.
PARKING: The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, upon a street or roadway, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading, or in obedience to traffic regulations or traffic signs or signals.
PEDESTRIAN: Any person afoot.
POLICE OFFICER: Every police officer or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.
PRIVATE ROAD OR DRIVEWAY: Every road or driveway not open to the use of the public for purposes of vehicular travel.
RESIDENCE DISTRICT: All that part or those parts of Three Forks not included in the business district.
RIGHT-OF-WAY: The privilege of the immediate use of a street, roadway or highway.
ROADWAY: That portion of a street, avenue or alley between the regularly established curb lines, and, where there are no curbs, that part devoted to vehicular traffic.
SIDEWALK: That portion of a street between the curb lines and the adjacent property lines.
STREET: "Avenue" and "alley".
TRAFFIC: Pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles and other conveyances, either singly or together, while using any street, roadway or highway for purposes of travel.
TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNAL: Any device using colored lights, or words, or any combination thereof, whether manually, electrically or mechanically operated, by which traffic is alternately directed to stop and to proceed. It also includes stationary "stop" signs.
VEHICLE: Every machine in, upon or by which a person or objects may be transported or drawn upon a street or roadway, whether currently operable or not, except devices moved by human power or used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks.
