It shall be unlawful to discharge any firearm or air gun in the city except in an indoor firing range that is maintained and operated as a special use approved by the city council to be located in a C-1 or C-2 zoning district under section 10-5-6 of this code or to be located in an I-1, I-2, or I-3 zoning district under section 10-6-2 of this code; and this section shall not be construed to prohibit any officer of the law to discharge a firearm in the performance of his duty nor to any citizen to discharge a firearm when lawfully defending his person or property or to drive away obnoxious birds, with the permission of the mayor and chief of police. This section shall not apply to Lake Taylorville should there be a special ordinance for hunting 1 . (Ord. 3741, 3-7-2016)
