250.02 SCHOOL GUARD.
   (a)   There is hereby created in the Police Department the position of School Guard. He shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of a majority of the members of Council. He shall, upon the order of the Mayor, devote such time as may be necessary to furnish police protection for children going to or coming from school as may be necessary and, in addition, shall perform such other police duties as may be from time to time assigned to him by the Mayor or Chief of Police. He shall receive compensation as prescribed by Council.
   (b)   School guards employed by the City in locations on school grounds or at points immediately adjacent thereto shall be furnished with those items of uniform deemed appropriate by the Mayor. School guards employed at locations away from school grounds at locations other than those previously specified in this subsection shall not be furnished with uniforms but shall be furnished with those items of equipment deemed appropriate by the Mayor.
