1446.05 SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.

   The minimum standards for garbage disposals shall be as follows:

   (a)    A separate fifteen ampere circuit shall be provided.

   (b)    A one-half horsepower motor, 1725 r.p.m. with capacity starting, shall be provided.

   (c)   Overload protection with manual or automatic reset shall be provided.

   (d)   The type of feed shall be optional, as follows:

      (1)   Batch feed; or

      (2)   Continuous feed.

   (e)   Switching shall be as follows:

      (1)      Magnetic for use with batch feeding; or

      (2)   Wall switch above the counter for use with continuous feed.

   (f)    The grinding chamber capacity shall be a minimum of two quarts.

   (g)    Anti-jam features must be automatic, either with swivel-mounted impellers on the turntable or through an automatic reversing switch. Manual switches are not permitted.

   (h)    All bearings shall be sealed and permanently lubricated.

   (i)    Interior surfaces shall be resistant to acid and corrosion.

   (j)   The unit must conform to the standards adopted in Title Two of this Building and Housing Code.

   (k)   The unit must meet the minimum standards of A.S.S.E. No. 1008, under the test procedure 5.0 through 5.3.
