No person employed by or representing any person or corporation owning or operating any system of gas works and pipes for the purpose of supplying gas, natural or artificial, to the residents of the City shall use any light during the inspection or reading of any meter used in connection with the business of the person or corporation, other than an electric lamp or flashlight.

No person, company, or association shall in constructing, extending, or erecting any line or telegraph erect-any pole or poles unless the same shall be at least forty-five feet in length and the wires placed upon such poles so as to be at least thirty feet from the surface of the ground, and unless the poles are of cedar or chestnut timber, or the equivalent thereto in strength and durability, and reasonably straight, dressed and painted at least to a height of forty feet, or the entire length of the poles aboveground. All work done in erecting, extending or constructing such lines shall be done under the direction of the Director of Public Service.

Every person or company or association to whom the City Commission shall grant the right or privilege of erecting, constructing or extending any telegraph line or of erecting any telegraph poles for the purpose of constructing, extending or erecting any line of telegraph through, over or across the streets or alleys of the City, who shall fail to comply with the provisions of this chapter shall forfeit all right and privilege so as aforesaid granted, and the privilege so granted shall be null and void. The Commission may order such person, company or association to remove from the streets and alleys the telegraph poles, and cause the telegraph line to be removed within such time as the Commission may by resolution or ordinance prescribe.
