297.12 NORMAL RETIREMENT.
   (a)   Any member, except an elected officer of the City, who has attained or attains sixty-five years of age shall be separated from City employment on the first day of the calendar month next following the month in which he or she attains sixty-five years of age. Such a member may be continued in City employment for a period not to extend beyond his or her attainment of seventy years of age or January 1, 1963, whichever is later, provided that such continuance is:
      (1)   Requested by him or her in writing;
      (2)   Approved by his or her department head; and
      (3)   Approved by the Board of Trustees.
   (b)   Upon his or her separation from City employment, as provided in this section, a member who has ten or more years credited service shall be retired, and he or she shall receive a pension provided for in Section 297.13.
