297.08 TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP.
   Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, if any member ceases to be employed in a position covered by the Employees Retirement System, for any reason except his or her retirement or death, he or she shall thereupon cease to be a member and his or her credited service at that time shall be forfeited by him or her. If he or she is re-employed by the City in a position covered by this Retirement System, he or she shall again become a member. If his or her re-employment occurs within five years from and after the date his or her membership last terminated, his or her credited service last forfeited by him or her shall be restored to his or her credit, provided that he or she returns to the Members Deposit Fund the amount he or she withdrew therefrom, together with regular interest from the date of withdrawal to the date of repayment. Upon his or her retirement or death, he or she shall thereupon cease to be a member.
