There shall be a municipal court in and for the City of Southgate which shall be known as "The Municipal Court of the City of Southgate." Said Court shall have and exercise the same jurisdiction in all suits and proceedings, both civil and criminal, to the same extent as was heretofore had and exercised by the justices of the peace of the Township of Ecorse, except as otherwise provided by Act No. 5 of the Public Acts of 1956 of the State of Michigan, as amended, and such other statutes of the State of Michigan as pertain to municipal courts.
