(A) Maltreatment. No owner shall fail to provide his or her animals with sufficient, good, and wholesome food and water, proper shelter and protection from the weather, and veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering, and humane care and treatment. No person shall beat, cruelly treat, torment, overload, overwork, tease, or otherwise abuse or molest any animal or cause or permit any dogfight, cockfight, bullfight, horse tripping, or other combat in which animals are involved.
(B) Abandonment. Abandonment of any animal is considered cruelty.

No person shall willfully kill, maim, or disfigure any animal except as affirmatively provided in this chapter, or administer poison or cause to be ingested, any foreign object to any such animal, or expose any poisonous substance with the intent that it shall be taken by any such animal except pests of public health importance. This section does not limit the actions of a police officer when the officer determines the existence of a public safety danger. This section also does not limit a person’s right to reasonably protect himself, herself or another from a possible animal attack.

It shall be the duty of every owner of any animal which shall in any manner come to its death within the town, to immediately remove the body or carcass of the animal and dispose of same in a legal manner.

(A) Owner responsibility. It is unlawful for an owner to allow his or her animal to be at large.
(B) Keeping on leash. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times by their owners when the dogs are upon any property neither owned nor leased by the owner. A dog not on a leash will be an animal at large and its owner will be subject to the provisions of § 6-3-18.

(A) Owner to maintain control. No owner or person in charge of any animal or animals shall fail to exercise proper care and control of such animal or animals to prevent them from becoming a NUISANCE, as defined herein.
(B) Groups of animals. For the purposes of this section or a conviction hereunder, it shall not be necessary to demonstrate which animal of a group of animals has created the nuisance.

(A) Keeping vicious animal. No person shall keep a vicious animal that manifests a disposition to bite or attack persons without having the animal secured and/or muzzled. Proof of the fact that the animal has bitten or attacked a person or other animal at any place where that person or other animal is legally entitled to be is evidence that the animal is vicious.
(B) Destruction of animal. Upon a conviction of a violation of this section, if it appears to the court that the animal is still living, the court may, in addition to punishment of the owner, order law enforcement officers to forthwith cause such animal or dog to be humanely destroyed.
