No person shall abandon any vehicle within the Town, and no person shall leave any vehicle at any place within the Town, for such times and under such circumstances as to cause the vehicle reasonably to appear to be abandoned.
A. Whenever any police agent finds a vehicle, attended or unattended, standing upon any portion of a street or highway right of way within the boundaries of the Town in such a manner as to constitute abandonment, or left unattended for a period of twenty four (24) hours so as to be assumed to be abandoned, such agent shall require the vehicle to be removed or cause the vehicle to be removed and placed in storage in the nearest garage or other place of safety designated or maintained by the Town.
B. In the event of abandonment of a vehicle on property within the Municipality other than public right of way, the owner of the property shall notify the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees shall after a period of seventy two (72) hours likewise cause the abandoned vehicle to be removed and placed in storage in the nearest garage or other place of safety designated or maintained by the Municipality.
C. Vehicles removed from streets or highways and other property within the Town and placed in storage, as provided in this Section, shall be disposed of by public or private sale if the vehicle is not claimed within forty (40) days of its impoundment. The proceeds of said sale shall be used to pay the costs of storage and/or sale. Any remaining proceeds shall be deposited in the Town's Law Enforcement Fund. (1990 Code)
