Local gas company selection of the location for the gas meter shall govern provisions for its connection to the gas piping. Good practice usually requires that the gas piping be brought to the meter location. Piping should not be run so as to necessitate the placing of a meter under steps, under windows, in an unventilated closet, near a furnace or boiler or in any location where it will be subject to damage.
