5-2-2: RABIES CONTROL:
   A.   Vaccination Required: It shall be unlawful for any person to own, possess or harbor a dog in the Village without first having such dog vaccinated against rabies.
   B.   Report Of Rabies: It shall be the duty of every veterinarian or other person who discovers any dog or other animal to be suffering with rabies to report such fact immediately to Village dog warden or a Shorewood police officer. Such report shall give the name, if known, and the place of residence of the person owning or harboring such dog, the place where the dog can be found and the license number of said dog, if known. Such dog or other animal shall be immediately impounded for a period of not less than ten (10) days for observation for rabies by the dog warden or veterinarian. If, upon examination, it shall be determined that said dog or other animal is suffering with rabies, said animal shall be destroyed. If, upon examination at the end of the impoundment period, it shall be determined the dog or other animal does not have rabies, it may be disposed of as herein provided for unredeemed dogs.
   C.   Biting Dogs: A dog having or suspected to have rabies that has bitten any other dog or animal, or any dog that has bitten any person shall be immediately impounded by the dog warden or the Police Department or anyone authorized by said officers. It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog, when said animal has bitten or scratched any person or has otherwise injured any person so as to cause an abrasion of the skin, to give or sell such dog or to permit or allow such animal to be taken beyond the corporate limits of the Village except for purposes of having such dog examined and held by a registered veterinarian. It shall be the duty of such owner, upon receiving notice of the aforesaid, to immediately notify the dog warden in order that such animal can be impounded for a period of not less than ten (10) days for observation for rabies according to the provisions of this chapter.
