133.03 APPOINTMENTS; RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS; PROBATIONARY PERIOD; QUALIFICATIONS.
   (a)   Appointment and Residency Requirement of Chief of Police. The Chief of Police shall be appointed in accordance with the Rules of the Civil Service Commission. The appointee need not already be a full-time patrolman or officer of the Division of Police, so long as the appointee is otherwise qualified under the laws of the State as a police officer. The appointee need not be a resident of the Municipality at the time of his initial appointment, but shall either become a resident thereof or reside within six statute miles, and not road miles, of the corporation limits nearest to the appointee’s residence within six months after his final appointment.    (b)   Appointment and Residency Requirements of Other Members of Division. The personnel of the Division of Police subordinate to the Chief of Police shall be appointed in accordance with law. All appointees shall, not later than one year after their appointment, maintain their residences within a fifteen mile linear radius of the Police Department Headquarters, currently located at 135 East Ohio Avenue, Sebring, Ohio 44672.

   (c)   Probationary Period. All appointments to the Division of Police shall be for a probationary period of twelve (12) months continuous service. This first appointment shall be known as the initial appointment; and no final appointment shall be made until the appointee has satisfactorily served his twelve (12) month probationary period.

   (d)   Qualifications. Each appointee to the Division of Police shall have, within sixty days prior to receiving his initial appointment, passed a physical examination, given by a licensed physician, showing that he meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position to which he is to be appointed as set forth in the Handbook of Regulations of the Division. The appointing authority shall, prior to making such initial appointment, file with the Police and Firemen’s Disability and Pension Fund, a copy of the report or findings of such licensed physician. The legislative authority shall pay the professional fee for the physical examination. (Ord. 1671-00. Passed 5-22-00.)
