§ 6-5-118 SAME; BALLOTS; TABULATING.
   Within 24 hours after expiration of the time within which the ballots are to be deposited with the City Clerk (exclusive of Saturdays, Sundays, and city holidays), the City Clerk, in the presence of the Police Chief, shall cause the envelopes containing the ballots which shall have been timely deposited as herein provided to be opened, and the votes for the candidate or candidates to be counted and tabulated, and shall enter in the records of his or her office a certificate signed by him or her, stating the time when, the place where, and name of the person(s) in whose presence the envelopes were opened and the ballots were counted and tabulated, the number of ballots timely deposited and in acceptable form, and the total number of valid votes cast for the candidate or each candidate for the position(s). The City Clerk shall also retain ballots, if any, which were received but not counted, to which shall be appended a statement, signed by the City Clerk, concerning the reason(s) for noncounting.
