Whenever used in any provision of this code which pertains to civil service or the discipline of employees who are subject to the Civil Service Act, being Neb. RS 19-1826 and 19-1827, the following terms shall have the following meanings, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.
ACCUSATION. A written instrument containing a charge that an employee has engaged or is engaging in misconduct warranting the imposition of major discipline. It must be signed by the person making the charge.
CHAIRPERSON. The Chairperson of the Commission.
CHIEF. The Chief of Police or the Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall only have power to impose discipline on employees assigned to the Fire Department. The Chief of Police shall only have power to impose discipline on employees assigned to the Police Department.
COMMISSION. The Civil Service Commission
DAYS. Days when City Hall is open for business, and does not include weekends or holidays, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.
EMPLOYEES. Full-time police officers and full-time firefighters as those terms are defined in the Civil Service Act.
MAJOR DISCIPLINE. Removal, suspension, demotion, or discharge from a position held by an employee who has been permanently appointed or inducted into civil service under the Civil Service Act.
MINOR DISCIPLINE. Discipline other than major discipline. Any discipline which is not committed to writing is not minor discipline.
NOTIFY. An accused means to deliver an instrument personally to the accused or to mail it by certified mail addressed to the accused at the residence address of the accused shown in the personnel records of the city.
SECRETARY. The secretary of the Commission.
