The Assistant City Manager shall, before entering upon the duties of his or her office, give to the city a surety company bond in the penal sum of $250,000, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his or her duties and for the faithful accounting for all property and money of the city which shall come into the possession or under the control of the Assistant City Manager, which bond shall be filed with the City Clerk and approved by the City Council. The premium of the bond of the Assistant City Manager shall be paid by the city. Provided, the Assistant City Manager who is in office at the time of the effective date of this section shall meet the requirements of this section within 30 days after the effective date of this section.
