1501.15 REQUIRING KEY BOXES FOR FIREFIGHTING ACCESS.
   (a)    Where access to or within a structure or an area including new construction and renovations, is restricted because of secured openings, or immediate access is necessary for life saving or firefighting purposes the Fire Chief is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain the keys to gain necessary access as required by the Fire Chief for firefighting purposes.
   (b)    Locks. A lock approved by the Fire Chief shall be installed on gates or similar barriers when the Fire Chief deems it necessary.
   (c)    Key Box Maintenance. The owner and/or operator of any building, structure or barrier shall immediately notify the Fire Chief and provide a new key when a lock is changed or re-keyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box. Each key box shall be maintained at the owner or operator's expense.
   (d)    In addition to the civil penalties as described Section 1501.99 (b)(2), whoever fails to comply with the provisions of this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor. Each day of noncompliance shall be considered a separate offense.
