6-1-2: COMMUNITY AFFAIRS DIVISION:
   A.   Division Created: The Community Affairs Division is hereby created. The Division shall fall under the Office of the Superintendent of Public Safety and commanded by a Commander of the Public Safety Department. Generally, the Division provides public presentations, information and facilitates community fire and crime prevention efforts. It also works closely with schools, residents, hotels, and businesses. Community Affairs is also responsible for the Citizens Public Safety Academy, police and fire training classes, community alerts, and social media, including the Public Safety Department Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page. Tours, safety presentations and recruitment efforts also fall under this Division.
   B.   Duties And Responsibilities:
      1.   In addition to the duties set forth in subsection A above, the duties and responsibilities of the Community Affairs Division shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
         a.   Investigate situations which come to the attention of the Village where Village residents may be in need of or may benefit from educational and social service programs and to refer the persons involved who are in need or who may benefit from educational or social services to an agency or other source where they may obtain such services.
         b.   Act as a coordinator and referral source for persons in the Village who are seeking assistance by referring such persons to educational and social service programs where they can obtain the assistance they are seeking.
         c.   When appropriate, provide assistance to existing agencies and programs which provide educational and social services in providing such services to residents of the Village.
         d.   Assess the need for additional educational and social services within the Village and report the results of the assessments to the Superintendent of Public Safety and to the President and Board of Trustees.
         e.   Make recommendations to the Superintendent of Public Safety and to the Village Corporate Authorities as to how educational and social services may be provided to residents of the Village more effectively and more efficiently.
      2.   As used in this subsection, the phrase “educational and social services” includes, but is not limited to:
         a.   Educational classes designed to teach English as a second language;
         b.   Classes designed to assist people in meeting the requirements to become a United States citizen;
         c.   Prenatal care programs;
         d.   Drug awareness and education programs;
         e.   Youth outreach programs designed to discourage persons from joining or otherwise becoming involved in gangs and/or criminal activities;
         f.   Programs designed to provide assistance to persons who are living in overcrowded housing conditions, including, finding new housing for such persons;
         g.   Programs relating to domestic violence; and
         h.   Programs which provide job training and/or opportunities for persons to become gainfully employed.
