(A) (1) The city, to comply with 29CFR 1910.156, 1910.134 and 1910.120 as adopted by Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Standards by 803 KAR 2:300 through 2:320 shall require all firefighters (full-time, volunteer and co-op) to undergo periodic medical screening examinations.
(2) Firefighters are required to undergo the periodic medical screening examinations with a physician chosen by the city. Periodicity and content of the screening examinations shall be determined by the physician chosen by the city.
(3) The periodic screening examinations shall be at the expense of the city.
(4) Advanced consultative examinations, if necessary, will be borne by the firefighter.
(5) Guidance for medical surveillance examinations will be through NFPA 1582.
(B) (1) Firefighters must pass this periodic medical surveillance screening exam to be considered eligible to participate in physical capability testing.
(2) Firefighters determined to have medical problems that preclude physical capabilities testing shall enter a medical rehabilitation program to facilitate progress in attaining a level of fitness commensurate with the individual’s assigned functions and activities. Firefighters must be able to correct or stabilize their medical problems sufficiently within six months to allow them to participate in physical capability testing.
(3) Firefighters whose medical conditions cannot be corrected or stabilized within six months are not fit for duty as a firefighter.

(A) Personnel hired in the Fire Department shall be hired as recruit firefighters and shall maintain that rank/position for one year of employment.
(B) Personnel hired for the Fire Department will be scheduled for the in-house training program and EMT training and then assigned to shift to complete their training within the first year of recruit firefighter employment.
(C) Upon successful completion of the training program, including all in-house required testing, the personnel may be recommended by the head of the Department to be hired as a firefighter for the city.
