§ 1490.11 OVERFLOW GUTTERS AND SURFACE SAKES.
   (A)   A swimming pool shall be provided with overflow gutters on all vertical walls, which shall extend around the entire perimeter of the pool. Such an overflow gutter shall be of the open, roll-over or semirecessed type, having a smooth finish. The lip or overflow gutter edge shall be level, and the overflow gutter shall have a minimum depth of four inches. The overflow gutter bottom shall have a slope toward each drain and have a pitch of not less than one-quarter of an inch to the foot. Drain spacings shall be a minimum of 15 feet on centers. Drain pipelines shall be at least three inches in diameter. Outlet fixtures shall have a grate opening area of at least twice the cross-sectional area of the drain pipe. Drain lines shall have an indirect connection to the sewer. The drainage system shall be constructed in conformity with the plumbing provisions of the Hamilton County Ohio Building Code and the Ohio Basic Building Code.
   (B)   Surface sakes may be substituted in lieu of an overflow gutter, subject to the approval of the Plumbing Inspector.
