1286.02  AGRICULTURAL DISTRICTS.
   In "A" Districts only the following signs may be erected:
   (a)   For one-family dwellings, one name plate not exceeding one and one-half square feet in area, indicating the name and/or address of the occupant or dwelling.
   (b)   Directional signs that indicate the distance or direction, or both, to a place of business or other premises indicated on the sign, not exceeding one and one- half square feet in area.
   (c)   One temporary sign not exceeding twelve square feet in area pertaining to the sale or rent of the property on which the sign is located.
   (d)   For one-family dwellings, one sign not exceeding nine square feet in area, indicating the name and permitted home occupation of the occupant.
   (e)   Historical markers not exceeding two square feet in area.  (Ord. 639-95.  Passed 8-10-95.)

1286.03  RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS.
   In "R" Districts only the following signs may be erected:
   (a)   For one-family dwellings, one name plate not exceeding one and one-half square feet in area, indicating the name and/or address of the occupant or dwelling.
   (b)   For multiple-family dwellings, condominiums, and for buildings other than dwellings, a single identification sign not exceeding twelve square feet in area, and indicating only the name and address of the building and the name of the management thereof.
   (c)   Directional signs, that indicate the distance or direction, or both, to a place of business or other premises indicated on the sign, not exceeding one and one-half square feet in area.
   (d)   One temporary sign not exceeding twelve square feet in area pertaining to the sale or rent of the property on which the sign is located.
   (e)   For one-family dwellings, one sign not exceeding nine square feet in area, indicating the name and permitted home occupation of the occupant.  (Ord. 540-89.  Passed 2-14-91.)

1286.04  COMMERCIAL AND MANUFACTURING DISTRICTS.
   The following shall apply in "C" and "M" Districts:
   (a)   The area of any individual advertising sign located at any place of business may not exceed 100 square feet in area.  The cumulative area of all advertising signs located at any place of business may not exceed 150 square feet in area.
   (b)   Signs suspended from any building shall not project more than forty-two inches from a building and/or an attached porch or deck, and the bottom of such sign shall be not less than ten feet above the finished grade or existing sidewalk or extend beyond the lowest portion of any roof or extend into any public right-of-way.
   (c)   On lots abutting any "R" District, signs may not be located nearer to side lot lines than the required side yards for the specific "R" District.
   (d)   Historical markers shall not exceed two square feet in area.  (Ord 639-95.  Passed 8-10-95.)
   (e)   Where two or more businesses occupy a single parcel (multi-tenant building) and where each business does not have an individual exterior entrance/exit to the outdoors, only one sign, which identifies all of the individual businesses by name/logo and which contains a total of 100 square feet or less of area, may be erected on the property.
   (f)   Where two or more businesses occupy a single parcel (multi-tenant building and multi-buildings) and where each business has its own individual exterior entrance/exit to the outdoors, only one sign which identifies all of the individual businesses by name/logo and which contains a total of 100 square feet or less of area may be erected on the property.
   (g)   Where an individual business has square footage in a multi-tenant building of 1,000 square feet or less, only one wall and/or projecting sign which contains thirty-two square feet or less of area may be erected on the property.
   (h)   Where an individual business has square footage in a multi-tenant building of more than 1,000 square feet but less than 5,000 square feet, only one wall and/or projecting sign which contains forty-eight square feet or less of area may be erected on the property.
   (i)   Where an individual business has square footage in a multi-tenant building of more than 5,000 square feet, only one wall and/or projecting sign which contains sixty-four square feet or less of area may be erected on the property.
   (j)   Buildings used exclusively or partly for dwelling or dormitory purposes, whether a nonconforming use, permitted use, or special use, shall comply with the sign requirements for Residential districts.

1286.05  INSTITUTIONAL DISTRICT.
   The following shall apply in the "I" District:
   (a)   Except for subsection (b) hereof, only one sign, not exceeding forty-eight square feet in area may be erected on the property.
   (b)   Directional signs, that indicate the distance or direction, or both, to a facility, not exceeding one and one-half square feet in area, may be erected on the property.

1286.06  EXCEPTIONS.
   The following exceptions shall apply:
   (a)   Signs shall not be deemed to include the following: traffic, danger, or legal notices.
   (b)   Signs such as memorial tablets and names of buildings built into the walls of buildings as an integral part of the building are excepted from the provisions
of this chapter as well as signs within buildings that are not visible from the outside of the building.  (Ord. 540-89.  Passed 1-24-89.)
   (c)   Temporary signs such as election signs, garage sale signs, for sale or rent signs and the like shall be removed within a period of fourteen days after the identified event is concluded.  This is the responsibility of the owner of the property on which the temporary sign is located.
