It shall be the duty of all members of the fire department to see that the provisions of this code relating to the authority, functions, and duties of the fire department are enforced and to that end all such members are hereby vested with the power and authority of police officers in the enforcement of this chapter; provided, however, that they shall not be subject to the statutory requirements or privileges of the regular members of the police department or be entitled to any additional compensation.
