It shall be unlawful for any "canvasser", "solicitor", "peddler" or "transient merchant", as the same are herein defined, to engage in the business of such persons within the corporate limits of the city without first registering therefor in compliance with the provisions of this chapter. Registration issued pursuant to this chapter shall not be transferable, nor valid after the end of either: the length of time for which the right to do business is requested, or the calendar year in which the application for registration was approved, whichever is the shorter time period.
